Introducing a new chip for 4K TVs

MediaTek introduced the new SoC Pentonic 700. This is a chip for mid-range 4K TVs. With the SoC, refresh rates of up to 144Hz are possible and modern AV1 and VVC video codecs are also supported. Moreover, the processor can not only handle HDR10 but also deliver HDR10+ Adaptive/Gaming and Dolby Vision IQ with precision details.

According to MediaTek, the first 4K TVs with the Pentonic 700 should hit the market in Q4 2022, which sounds pretty sporty. It might not be clear to some readers, but MediaTek chips are already at work in 70% of smart TVs worldwide. Manufacturers such as Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Xiaomi use MediaTek processors.

The SoC has even more features out of the box. With the right companion chips, it also supports Wi-Fi 6 and even Wi-Fi 7. It can also decode Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and can handle HDMI 2.1. All specifications can be found on the official product page.
