Aston Villa vs West Ham United live stream, Sunday August 28, 2pm
Aston Villa and West Ham will both be looking to kick off their seasons when they face off this weekend.
Steven Gerrard’s side have already recorded their first win of the campaign, but the mood around Villa Park isn’t particularly positive at the moment. That 1-0 win over Everton (opens in a new tab) was somewhat unconvincing, and Villa’s performances in away defeats to Bournemouth (opens in a new tab) and Crystal Palace (opens in a new tab) left a lot to be desired.
Visitors to Selhurst Park actually took the lead last weekend, but Villa (opens in a new tab) were outclassed for the rest of the match. Their defense was repeatedly opened up by Palace, and the home side could easily have won by a wider margin than the final score of 3-1.
Gerrard has had a brilliant start to his tenure at Villa, but there have been few signs of progress in recent months. The Old Rangers (opens in a new tab) boss has been backed in the transfer market and supporters now want to see results.
West Ham (opens in a new tab) are anchored at the foot of the table after three rounds of matches. David Moyes’ men are yet to leave, suffering defeats to Manchester City (opens in a new tab)Nottingham Forest (opens in a new tab) and Brighton (opens in a new tab). After two consecutive seasons of European qualification, the fear is that West Ham will take a step back this season.
The Hammers cruised to victory on Thursday, however, securing their place in the Europa Conference League group stage with a 6-0 aggregate triumph over Viborg. This could give Londoners a boost ahead of Sunday’s contest at Villa Park.
Gerrard will have to manage without Ludwig Augustinsson and Diego Carlos, the summer rookie out until 2023 after tearing his Achilles tendon.
West Ham will not be able to call on the services of Nayef Aguerd and Craig Dawson, while Vladimir Coufal will have to be assessed after suffering a concussion. Gianluca Scamacca is pushing for his first Premier League start after a summer switch from Sassuolo.
Kick-off is at 14:00 BST on Sunday August 28. See below for international streaming options.

VPN guide
If you’re out of the country for a series of Premier League fixtures, your domestic on-demand services unfortunately won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are thanks to your IP address (boo!). You won’t be able to watch it, which isn’t ideal if you’ve paid for a subscription and still want to follow the action without resorting to the illegal streams you’ve found on Reddit.
But help is at hand. To work around this, all you have to do is get a virtual private network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and the internet, which means the service can’t determine where you are and won’t automatically block the service you paid for. All information in between is fully encrypted – and that’s a result.
