gamescom 2022: a success despite fewer visitors than in 2019

It’s over, the first gamescom on location, after we’ve only been able to experience it digitally for two years. However, since the pandemic is still affecting our lives, gamescom 2022 looked a little different, with no tickets available for purchase onsite and fewer exhibitors and games, to name a few examples. Nevertheless, gamescom was a success, as the Cologne show has now presented some numbers.

Here are some numbers:

• Around 265,000 visitors from more than 100 countries were on hand at the show, around 108,000 less than in the record year 2019 (373,000 visitors)
• until Saturday evening more than 130,000,000 views of the entire program of the show
• more than 1,100 exhibitors from 53 countries
• over 12 million views at Opening Night Live
• more than 100,000 people at the gamescom city festival in Cologne

Due to the general situation, it was already foreseeable that the success of 2019 could not be repeated or even surpassed. Big names like Nintendo, Activision Blizzard or Sony were missing. Also, many stayed away from the fair due to the pandemic, but basically fewer tickets were offered. Nevertheless, 2022 can be celebrated as a successful comeback, if only because there were more visitors to Cologne in 2022 than there were between 2009 and 2010.
