Netflix apparently flirts with cloud gaming

Netflix celebrates its anniversary today and celebrates its 25th anniversary. This day is celebrated with a nostalgic video. The company didn’t start out as a direct broadcaster, but in its early days in the United States it still sent DVD movies in red envelopes for rental.

Funny thing: when Netflix launched this service after its inception, in 1998, the first 150 orders arrived at the same time and crashed the servers. Yes, those were different times. Originally, Netflix even wanted to be bought out by the now-bankrupt video blockbuster – for US$50 million. But at the time, it was rejected. If that deal had gone through, who knows what the streaming landscape would look like today.

Netflix then went public in 2002 – at that time it still had 600,000 subscribers. The video above summarizes the company’s story in less than 2 minutes – check it out.
