Automatically power home appliances with solar power when the sun is shining

The idea of ​​using self-generated solar energy efficiently is not new. In the future, Home Connect-enabled appliances, including many appliances from the BSH Group (Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau and Neff), can also be used more efficiently with the electricity they generate themselves. Home Connect is working with Enphase Energy to do this.

Household appliances are often big consumers. In times of rising energy prices, it’s all the better if you can run them with the electricity you’ve generated yourself. To this end, Enphase Energy, an energy technology provider and supplier of microinverter-based solar and battery systems, is integrated into the Home Connect ecosystem. By linking the two systems, Home Connect devices are also available in the Enphase app. This can be used to configure networked dishwashers, washing machines and dryers for intelligent and automated energy use.

In the Enphase app, you can then choose the program and the desired time when the device should start. For example, if you have preloaded the washing machine with dirty laundry, it can only be turned on when the sun is shining and there is sufficient electricity production. It features smart schedules for future sunny days, while Enphase’s IQ Solar Battery can be used on cloudy days.

Home Connect already offers a number of devices from different brands and home appliances that can be controlled using your own app, smartwatch or voice assistant. As the ecosystem grows, the possibilities expand. In the future, it would also be possible to intelligently supply other devices with clean electricity.
