The ProSiebenSat.1 group takes over the remaining 50% of Joyn’s shares from Warner Bros. Discovery. The joint venture was founded with Discovery in 2017 and has been operating as Joyn since 2019. From the start, Joyn has emphasized a free and therefore ad-supported offering, and Joyn also offers a subscription space. With more than 30 million app downloads and 4 million unique users per month, the German streaming platform has firmly established itself in the market after three years, or so operators think. In future, Joyn will be transferred to the Entertainment segment of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE as a 100% subsidiary.
In addition to content from ProSiebenSat.1 and other content partners, Joyn users will continue to have access to content from Warner Bros. Discovery in the ad-supported free zone. Users of the Joyn PLUS+ subscription offer also have access to discovery+, which allows them to use the streaming service for twelve months.
The future reads spongy:
Rainer Beaujean, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE: “With the full acquisition of the shares of Joyn, we are continuing the digital transformation of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. After Joyn started three years ago as a pure streaming platform , we are today making Joyn the first point of contact in our digital ecosystem, while benefiting from the synergies within the group. In line with our strategy, we are expanding our reach, in particular among young target groups, and creating new monetization opportunities Having full control over Joyn gives us the entrepreneurial flexibility to do so.
“In the future, we will focus more on interaction with and between users and community management”, continues Rainer Beaujean. “To do this, we are linking our streaming platform even more closely with our influencer business and our brands in the Dating & Video and Commerce & Ventures segments.
