GTA 6 Mega Leak - Rockstar Statement: GTA 6 Development Is Not In Danger

Rockstar speaks with a statement.

After a hacker flooded the internet with a mega leak for GTA 6 featuring 90 clips for the upcoming open-world game, Rockstar has now made an official statement.

A brief summary of the most important points of the statement:

  • Rockstar confirms that “unauthorized third parties” were able to break into the company’s network and download classified information from Rockstar’s systems, including early-stage GTA 6 development footage
  • An interruption of live game services (e.g. GTA Online) is not expected
  • Rockstar also does not expect the development of new projects (for example also those of GTA 6) to be disturbed by the long-term hack
  • Rockstar continues to work on GTA 6 as planned
  • The company plans to officially unveil GTA 6 when the game is ready

Full statement translated:

We recently suffered from a network intrusion that allowed unauthorized third parties to illegally access and download highly confidential information from our system. Including material from the first phase of development of the next part of Grand Theft Auto. At this point, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live gaming services, or any long-term effects on the development of our current projects.

We are extremely disappointed that so many details about our upcoming game have been shared with you in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto is continuing as planned and we remain more committed than ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds our expectations. We’ll let you know soon and – of course – bring you our next game the right way when it’s ready. We would like to thank everyone for their support in this situation.

It’s behind the GTA 6 Mega Leak

What happened before: A GTA Forums user named teapotuberhacker posted 90 gameplay clips of an early build of GTA 6 to “GTA Forums” on Saturday night.

Rockstar has now begun removing the leaked material from YouTube, Twitter and Co.

The leaked clips revealed, among other things, that GTA 6 introduces a female protagonist and takes us to Vice City.

For example, in one video (which has since been blocked on YouTube), the protagonist can be seen pointing a gun at a waitress in a restaurant, stealing cash from the cash register, taking hostages and then engaging in a shootout with the cops outside. In the end, she and her companion steal a police car and flee.
