We have frequently reported on the Krita drawing app for Windows, Linux, and macOS in the past. It is available free of charge and has so far been funded, among other things, by donations. Now chip giant Intel is stepping into the picture. The Krita Foundation is pleased to announce that Intel is the first supporting member of the foundation’s development fund.
Intel and Krita have a long history of successful collaboration on projects such as Krita Sketch, improved multithreading, and HDR painting. According to the developers, this strategic collaboration will deliver a suite of new paint capabilities that take full advantage of 12th and future generation Intel Core Hybrid technology with P and E cores and Intel Arc GPUs, resulting in a more powerful painting experience with less delay.
A recent support result is Krita version 5.1: full support for the new JPEG XL file format. JPEG-XL is a new image format that offers significantly better compression and image quality than regular JPG images. The file format is currently marked as experimental in most web browsers. Together with Intel, they work with JPEG XL developers and Chrome developers to ensure interoperability.
