Amazon has just introduced four new tablets. Specifically, these are the two Amazon Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8 Plus as well as the two new children’s models Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. According to the online retailer, pre-orders for all models are possible from today. However, delivery will only start in October 2022.
Among other things, Amazon promises a 30% increase in CPU performance for the Fire HD 8 compared to the previous model. This lets you use picture-in-picture videos with apps like Prime Video or use the smooth split-screen feature. As the name suggests, there’s an 8-inch-diagonal LCD screen with HD resolution on board, which is protected by reinforced aluminum silicate glass. Battery life is up to 13 hours. You can charge the tablet via USB-C with the included 5-watt power adapter. It will be fully charged in 5 hours.
With screen mirroring, you can project videos, browsers, apps, photos and more onto larger screens that support Miracast. The Amazon Fire HD 8 is a tablet with 32 or 64 GB of storage space. You can upgrade up to 1TB via the microSD card slot. According to Amazon, the “Custom Screen Size” feature is new. With a somewhat misleading title, the tablet’s screen doesn’t outdo itself. On the contrary, the function magnifies all the elements on the screen. It can also be used to collapse items to free up more screen space.
Touch control is also now available for customers who prefer to interact with Alexa using finger gestures instead of voice. This is compatible with Switch access controllers and also offers text-to-speech, so customers can type in phrases and have them spoken out loud.
Visually, it hardly differs from the standard model, but the Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus offers some advantages for a slightly higher purchase price thanks to the increased working memory (3 GB). For example, this tablet can still charge with 9 watts, which means that the battery is fully charged in 3 hours. Wireless Qi charging is also possible here. The 5-megapixel rear camera is also an upgrade. But don’t expect big shots.
The Fire HD 8 Kids, on the other hand, was developed for children aged 3 to 7. Technically it’s identical to the Fire HD 8, but with purchase you get one year of Amazon Kids+ with access to entertainment and educational content from brands like Disney, Barbie and Pumuckl. The tablet also comes with a kid-friendly case and a 2-year worry-free warranty.
Designed for school-aged children, the new Fire HD 8 Kids Pro also comes with a kid-friendly case, 2-year worry-free warranty, and one-year Amazon Kids+. In addition to Amazon Kids+ content, Fire Kids Pro tablets offer access to a digital store where kids can browse content and ask their parents to buy a new e-book or add apps like Minecraft or Zoom.
