DHL now offers private customers the new GoGreen Plus service. This actively avoids emissions when receiving parcels. The term of service is twelve months and is not automatically extended. By booking the GoGreen Plus consignee service, which is chargeable, private customers can help avoid greenhouse gas emissions when receiving parcels – according to DHL.
In my opinion, anyone raising their eyebrows here is right: it shouldn’t be up to the customer to additionally reward a company for its climate protection efforts. In the end, DHL begins a more or less deft attempt to pass on the costs of greater environmental compatibility to the customer and to market this as a service. But back to the offer: according to DHL, registered private customers benefit from transparency on the sustainability of the parcels and Warenpost consignments they receive.
A sustainability overview and the booking option for GoGreen Plus can be found in the customer account. The overview shows the number of consignments received and provides information on how many parcels the sender has already sent in a climate-neutral way – and what savings in greenhouse gas emissions this corresponds to.
Booking the service costs EUR 3.79 once or alternatively 379 DHL bonus points. After booking, according to DHL, the resulting greenhouse gas emissions of all DHL shipments that can be attributed to the recipient are avoided for one year through so-called insetting. During insetting, emissions generated when shipping parcels are avoided by investing in reduction measures within DHL’s logistics network in Germany. These include measures such as the expansion of the electric vehicle fleet, the construction of CO2-neutral delivery points or the use of alternative fuels. Deutsche Post DHL Group is pursuing the goal of making its logistics emission-free by 2050.
So, what do you think of the new GoGreen Plus offer? Do you tend to agree with me and do you see this all as profit maximization under a green canopy, or do you think it’s a good thing for more climate protection that everyone can participate in ?
