LG introduced its new webOS hub. This is a building block meant to ensure that you can earn more licenses for your Smart TV OS. As we know, LG has big plans. The South Koreans have set themselves the goal of gaining more than 200 partners for the platform. The main objective is to earn money with large-scale advertising.
Meanwhile, TV makers are increasingly trying to squeeze money out of customers’ pockets, even after the device is sold. LG is even going so far as to try it with NFTs. In any case, LG was able to win the Seiki, Eko, Stream System, Konka, Aiwa and Hyundai brands as partners for webOS. They can all now use the webOS hub, which is explicitly intended for third parties who use the operating system for their devices.
webOS is more than a smart platform, according to LG. Because you also directly deliver the technologies of your partners such as Dolby, Realtek, Gracenote and CEVA. The new webOS hub now gives partners more customization options. For example, the home screen color scheme can be adjusted to reflect the corporate design of the respective company. LG is also promoting the “Next Pick” function, which partners can integrate to recommend up to three live programs and VOD content to users. This is joined by the LG Magic Explorer, which can display information about actors, filming locations and more while the program is running.
The webOS hub also allows partners to integrate Clear Voice Pro. This is a function that acoustically amplifies dialogue. It also sticks to integrating popular streaming apps like Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Netflix. The Nvidia GeForce Now cloud gaming offering will also remain on board – Google Stadia will be ending soon. Partners can also seamlessly adopt LG’s VRR and Game Optimizer.
According to LG, the first OLED TVs from partner brands with the webOS hub will soon be launched internationally. We will continue to work on our system to improve it for our customers and partners.
