Whether Borussia Dortmund are to reverse their seven-game losing streak against Bayern in Sunday’s Klassiker will depend a lot on Jude Bellingham’s performance.
At just 19, the Englishman has become the most important player for the Blacks and Yellows, consistently putting in excellent performances this season. Bellingham scored their third Champions League goal in as many games against Sevilla on Wednesday and head to the Klassiker in sensational form.
The midfielder’s performances have drawn plenty of praise, including from Bundesliga legend Lothar Matthäus, who spoke enthusiastically about the Dortmund star in an exclusive chat with FourFourTwo.
“He’s only 19, very young, and he’s already consistently showing how much quality he has,” Matthäus said. TFF ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Bayern. “He’s not afraid to take responsibility, he’s physically very impressive for a teenager and he’s extremely intelligent. He’s someone who understands how to use his aggression during games – when to press, when to tackle or an interception and when to sit and hold your position.
“It’s not all about his defensive work,” continued Matthäus. “He’s starting to show more and more with each passing game that he’s a dangerous player going forward. He can play the final ball, he can direct and he can shoot well from outside the box. .”
Matthäus believes Bellingham could become one of the stars of the World Cup in Qatar, provided he gets the opportunity to play. “He’s someone that English football fans must be extremely excited about,” said the former Germany World Cup-winning captain. TFF. “With his mentality, he’s not someone who should be treated like a young player hoping for a few minutes here and there – he’s a player who should start every game.
“He is becoming an important part of the national team and in my opinion he has the potential to be one of the best midfielders England have ever produced. I myself have played against some very good and I see those qualities in him.”
