The Witcher is not just getting one new game, but several

When will the new games in The Witcher trilogy be released?

CD Projekt RED announced a while ago that they were working on a brand new trilogy set in the witcher universe with The Witcher: A New Saga Begins. The Witcher: Codenamed Polaris, which we’ll call “The Witcher 4” for convenience, will be the first game in this trilogy and is set to release at least ten years after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, according to CD Projekt President Red’s Adam Kicinski has now announced the final call for investors (via Gamerant).

New The Witcher Trilogy Games Release Dates

The Witcher: Codename Polaris, the first open-world RPG of the new saga, will therefore not be available before 2025 at the earliest. Kincinski cites the new engine as the reason, namely the UE5, which requires a bit more development time.

However, once the basic framework is created in Unreal Engine 5 with The Witcher: Polaris, the next two titles in the trilogy should require a little less development time, according to Kicinski. He gives an estimated period of three years for each of the two games.

The targeted release periods of the Witcher trilogy games again at a glance:

  • The Witcher: codenamed Polaris – release 2025 at the earliest
  • Second part of the new The Witcher trilogy – out in 2028 at the earliest
  • Third installment of the new The Witcher trilogy – out at the earliest in 2031

Two more Witcher games are in the works at CD Projekt

But that’s not all. During the aforementioned Investor Conference, CD Projekt also announced two other new The Witcher games:

  • Sirius Project: Currently still in pre-production phase and developed by Molasses Flood, supported by CD Projekt. This should be exciting for new and old fans. A multiplayer also awaits us.
  • Canis Majoris Project: Developed by a third-party developer with former The Witcher developers on Unreal Engine 5. A story-driven open-world single-player RPG awaits.

Additionally, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and brand new RPG are in the works at the Polish dev studio.

In this separate GamePro article you will find an overview of all planned games from CD Projekt Red.
