One Piece Odyssey – Kingdom of Alabasta is also on board

One Piece Odyssey not only wants to tell the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates, but to deliver a whole new story. So I was all the more surprised when the latest trailer introduced a crew member we haven’t seen in years. In the JRPG, there’s an obviously emotional reunion with Vivi in ​​her native Alabasta.

But before One Piece fans hope for a return of the princess to the crew: as the trailer also reveals, it’s just a memory. After the Straw Hats get stranded on the mysterious Waford Island early in the game, they initially lose their powers. To find them, they must travel through their own memories with the help of the islander Lim – and that means liberating the realm of Alabasta once again while encountering familiar places and characters. There’s even a reunion with the gang’s first ship, the Going Merry.

Since the Straw Hats have already experienced the events of Alabasta, the question naturally arises as to whether and to what extent they can influence the events of the memories. At least it looks like we can freely explore the desert kingdom.

A reunion with more characters?

It’s also entirely possible that we’ll meet other well-known characters in One Piece Odyssey who lurk in the memories of the Straw Hat Pirates. So maybe there will even be a reunion with Portgas D. Ace and Co. But we still have to wait and see what characters and memories await us. We will know for sure no later than January 13, 2023, when the game will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Seeing Vivi and her homeland again after a long time immediately made me nostalgic. After all, the Alabasta arc was one of the best early arcs in the manga for me, and when Vivi and the Straw Hat Pirates parted ways at the end, it was quite an emotional moment.

It’s no wonder, then, that a few scenes from the trailers are enough to immediately stir up those feelings in me. I, for one, am incredibly excited to see Vivi back (even if it’s just a memory) and hope to see more old characters in the game.
