From October 10, 2022, Snap will integrate the Snapchat Family Center into the German-language app of the social network of the same name. At the international level, the start took place some time ago. There has been a lot of back and forth over announcements and multiple postponements. Well, according to the company, the Family Center is primarily intended to teach GenZ the media skills needed to use the app with the help of parents, as well as to promote regular usage exchanges between the child and the parent.
After the child’s approval, the Family Center gives the parents the possibility, among other things, to consult the list of friends of the child. Parents also get an overview of recently added contacts. Shared messages, videos and others cannot be viewed. The Parent’s Guide, also available through the hub, is designed to help understand how to use the app, provide insight into the possibilities kids have with Snapchat, and act as a conversation guide.
Ultimately, the Family Center should provide resources for parents and children to use Snapchat in the safest way possible while keeping children’s independence as much as possible so they don’t feel overly controlled – an exercise successful balancing act?
