The French open source software manufacturer Murena is probably not known to many. With the Murena One, however, he is now launching the market’s first smartphone. The smartphone focuses on the area of privacy and protecting your own data, less on the technical specifications.
The Murena One has a 6.5 inch (about 17 cm) screen with an IPS panel and a resolution of 1080 x 2242 pixels (395 ppi). The Mediatek Helio P60 runs under the hood with a clock frequency of 2.1 GHz, which is backed by 4 GB of RAM. In terms of storage space, 128 GB is available, expandable via a microSD card. There is also space for 2 SIM cards in the device if the microSD slot remains free. When it comes to mobile communications, however, 4G is the highest of emotions.
The Murena One also came to the end of the road with Android 11 in shipping condition. Please note that we are currently using Android 13, so an update guarantee does not help much. The operating system relies on its own /e/OS, an Android offshoot without Google. This is equipped with various open source applications such as Nextcloud and OnlyOffice. In addition, Murena has removed various code parts from Android in order – according to its own statements – to ensure the lowest possible data storage. In-browser ad blocking and additional features such as IP address removal are also part of the game. However, most Android apps are expected to work. It is certainly similar to Huawei smartphones. The very own /e/OS is also set to debut on various other smartphones. They cooperate with Fairphone and Gigaset, among others.
The camera uses a combination of four lenses. The main camera delivers images with a resolution of 48 megapixels, the front one with an unusual 25 megapixels. The other three lenses are unspecified lenses. The manufacturer specifies two with 8 and 5 megapixels.
Did you leave any other information? The device (161.8 x 76.9 x 8.9 mm) weighs 186 grams. Wi-Fi 6 is included, as is NFC. With Bluetooth you have to be content with version 4.2. The battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh. The device is unlocked via a fingerprint reader on the side.
On the technical side, especially at the price of 349 euros, it is certainly not the first choice of most users.
