Kylian Mbappe already wants to leave PSG for Real Madrid, according to a Spanish newspaper Mark (opens in a new tab)just months after signing his exceptional contract extension with the French club.
Mbappe extended his contract with PSG until 2025 in May, in a deal which would have included a signing fee of £100m and is worth £1m-a-week. The signing of the contract ended a saga surrounding the Frenchman, with Real Madrid not hiding that they were extremely interested in acquiring his services.
Under pressure from PSG and the likes of French President Emmanuel Macron, Mbappe decided to stay in Paris and hand his immediate future over to the Ligue 1 champions.
La Liga also formally complained about the contract extension to UEFA, saying PSG were unable to pay for Mabppe’s new contract under financial regulations.
However, Franco-Monegasque radio station RMC initially broke the news that Mbappe already wanted to leave the club, with Marca further developing the story. The Spanish newspaper report that Mbappe asked the PSG hierarchy to leave in July, but the club would only facilitate a move if it didn’t involve Real Madrid – Mbappe’s desired destination.
Liverpool were seen as the only feasible option, but that didn’t materialize. Consequently, Mbappe has remained at PSG, where he has scored eight Ligue 1 goals in eight games so far this season.
However, his time on the pitch hasn’t been easy. Mbappe has openly criticized PSG manager Christophe Galtier’s tactics as his relationship with Neymar seems to have completely deteriorated.
The pair argued over taking a penalty against Montpellier in August, after Mbappe missed one earlier in the game. Neymar scored the kick, but Mbappe decided not to celebrate with his teammate. Neymar then continued as a series of tweets that attacked Mbappe.
Following revelations the 23-year-old wanted to quit this summer, Marca reporter Mario Cortegana tweeted (opens in a new tab) that the relationship between Mbappe and the PSG officials has completely broken down, with the young striker feeling betrayed by broken promises.
Indeed, in September, the news emerged that Mbappe’s new contract only runs until 2024, and not until the originally planned 2025. Therefore, at the end of the season, Mbappe will only have 12 months to fulfill his contract with PSG.
Despite this, sources suggest that Mbappe is working on leaving PSG as early as January.
