MediaTek Dimensity 1080: New SoC presented

MediaTek introduced the new Dimensity 1080 SoC. This is a new chip, which is basically based on last year’s Dimensity 920. The new processor is created using TSMC’s 6 nanometer process and uses eight cores. Two are based on the ARM Cortex-A78 series with up to 2.6 GHz clock and six are based on the ARM Cortex-A55 series with up to 2 GHz. The ARM Mali G68 serves as the GPU.

The new SoC supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The built-in ISP can encode 4K video with HDR and fix image sensors up to 200 megapixels without shutter lag. Support for the 5G mobile communication standard is also on board. According to the manufacturer, the first smartphones equipped with the new MediaTek Dimensity 1080 will appear in the fourth quarter of 2022.
