Private customers do not have their own e-mail domain

Launch of a new application for Windows, mobile devices and the Web

At Microsoft 365 there are changes for private customers. This eliminates the need for your own email domain. It can therefore no longer be implemented in the future. There is also a second deterioration of the offer: attachments saved in Outlook.com are now deducted from your OneDrive storage quota.

However, there is a grace period: you can still set up your own email domains until November 30, 2023, as Dr. Windows found in an official Redmond support doc. If you already use the function, you can also breathe a sigh of relief: nothing should change for existing customers. So if you’ve already set up your own email domain, Microsoft won’t just collect it. But if you turn this feature off later or want to turn it back on after the deadline, things look bleak.

The mentioned change with the counting of email attachments on Outlook.com against your OneDrive storage quota will come into effect on February 1, 2023. Anyone who has subscribed to Microsoft 365 should at least not have problems that quickly, because there is 1 TB of storage space available. With the free tier this can tighten faster, so 5GB is the current limit. So it’s either a matter of clearing the news or reaching into your wallet and increasing the quota.
