Employees who can work from home have fewer sick days than employees without this option. This emerges from a response from the federal government to a quick question from the Die Linke parliamentary group. According to 2021 statistics, employees working from home had an average of 7.9 days away over the past 12 months. For employees without a home office, there were 12.9 days absent due to illness. Of course, the question is whether you are really less sick or do things at home when you are sick.
Also, there need not be causation here, but there may be a random correlation in which a third variable is actually decisive. It’s not that easy to say. Well, the answer also shows that working from home is mainly a phenomenon of high income groups: according to the information, 86.8% of the highest income group used telework in 2021, and 25.7% of the group the lowest.
Breaking down by age, it can be seen that around 51% of young employees (up to 39) use the home office much more frequently than older employees (55-67), with a share of around 41 %.
