This is how you hide your online status now

We’ve already reported that WhatsApp wants to let you fine-tune who can see your online status. This feature was last released for beta users in mid-September 2022. But now all users, including those on the stable version, should be able to enjoy it. That’s why I will briefly explain to you how you can use the function in Messenger.

In the first step you switch to the application for WhatsApp via the menu with the three dots at the top right of the screen settings of the messenger. The next step is to select the sub-area privacy out. At the top you will now find the option “Last Online / Online“, which you tap to open it.

In the area that can be seen at the end (see also the screenshot above) you can define who is allowed to see when you last in line has been. You can share this with everyone, only your contacts, your contacts with certain exceptions or nobody.

There is a second option “On line”. If you are active online, all WhatsApp users have seen it beforehand, even if they weren’t in your contact list. This bothered some readers in the comments. This is exactly what you can now prevent by aligning this setting with your selection for “Last Seen”. Should offer more privacy.

Well, that’s it for the new WhatsApp settings. With the new granular configuration options, you’re essentially preventing people from seeing when you’re active in Messenger, even if they’re not your contacts. You can always give the latter additional information, if you wish. Decisions no longer need to be based on the “all or nothing” principle.
