Yeelight’s smart lights are certainly familiar to many of our readers who do something with smart homes. Unfortunately, the company has really failed in recent years to properly market its product range on the German market, the GmbH operating in this country is not equipped with all current products. After all: they committed to Standard Matter early on and have now reaffirmed the whole thing – like many other companies. So you want to make all Yeelight Pro solutions Matter compatible via an update. The upcoming Yeelight Fun series will support Matter right out of the box. It is not known if all “cheap” Yeelight series products will receive the update, so you should keep your eyes peeled for updates or the page with certified products.

Background:
Matter is based on three technologies as standard: Bluetooth LE for configuration, Wi-Fi for use when high bandwidths are required, e.g. B. Video streaming through a camera and the nascent Thread protocol for, e.g., motion sensors and other low-bandwidth scenarios (we’ve already mentioned Nanoleaf’s lights, Eve hardware, and the HomePod mini as border router some times). Automation application interfaces will work as before, only under the hood, everything should be compatible at best.
Perhaps most important for many advanced users who want some future-proofing, the Matter spec includes a feature called “Multi-Admin” that allows a single Matter device to be controlled by multiple smart home systems at the same time. This means that customers no longer have to choose a single system to directly control smart home devices in their home.
