What You Didn't Know About Late Jazz Musician, Nick Colonne

Nick Colonne was an American professional jazz singer and guitarist. Due to his fabulous guitar skills, celestial voice and dynamic stage persona, he was famous all over the world. He reached No. 1 on Billboard’s smooth jazz airplay chart eight times, and he was the only smooth jazz artist with five No. 1 hits from a single album, 2016’s “The Journey.”

Nick has produced some amazing music for us. January 1 this year was the darkest day for music fans. We lost such a gem that day. One of Nick’s friends confirmed his death, saying he suffered for a few days before he died.

Nick Colonne, well-known jazz artist and singer, was born in 1966 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He spent his childhood there with his parents. Column has never divulged any information about his parents, nor discussed his early life. He followed Christianity. Nick started learning the guitar at the age of nine.

According to various sites, Nick spent most of his childhood in Chicago. But, he did not share many details regarding his childhood or even his schooling. The only thing we learned was about his graduate studies. The late singer graduated from Malcolm X College in Chicago.

After graduating, Nick started teaching in elementary school. At this time, he manages his time to make music, as he has already decided to pursue a career in the music field. For nearly 20 years, Nick has taught jazz music and musical instrument concepts to young children at St. Laurence Elementary School in Elgin. He believed in the ability of the younger generation to establish music in this generation and encouraged them to pursue music.

Nick Colonne had great success as a jazz artist

As mentioned earlier, Nick had been interested in music since his early years. According to sources, her stepfather was her inspiration. Nick started learning music at the age of nine. By the end of the next six years, Nick had already started singing in pubs and on the streets. Also, at such a young age, he had the chance to tour with bands like The Staple Singers, The Impressions, etc.

Since the beginning of his professional career in the 90s with his first musical, “C’est mon tour, Colonne”, Nick has released numerous albums. In the early 2000s, even the international jazz community recognized this. He continued to improve his jazz concepts and released the majority of amazing music tracks. Some of his incredible jazz works include Keepin’ Cool, High Flying, Uncle Nick and Feel the Heat.

Finger Painting, released in April 2020, became his latest release. In 1996 Nick received the Malcolm X College Alumnus of the Year award. And in 2010, he received the Wayman Tisdale Humanitarian Award.

Was Nick Colonne married?

Nick’s personal life has never been properly discussed. It would therefore be surprising to learn that Nick is a married man. Yes, Nick was indeed married to his longtime girlfriend, but details of his wife or children do not exist on the internet. It seems Nick liked to keep his personal life private.

Nick Colonne died on New Year’s Day

Nick died on the first day of the new year, aged 55. Although the detailed cause of his death has not yet been released, it is said that he was in pain. On December 31, he was admitted to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago as his pain worsened. In hospital, he breathed his last on January 1, 2022. The news of his untimely death left all his fans and well-wishers heartbroken.

Michael Lington remembers Nick

Michael Lington, a Danish-American contemporary saxophonist and songwriter, shared videos of himself performing with Nick during the pandemic on his YouTube channel. After Nick’s death, Michael paid tribute to the late Nick Collione on Instagram by sharing a photo of them.

He wrote: “Incredibly sad that we lost Nick Colionne this morning! We all have the same experience with him – always fun and warm on stage and off. He added: “I can’t remember when we first met, but that was many moons ago. I will miss you so much my brother. TO TEAR APART”

He and even ordinary citizens shared their condolences on social media, primarily on Twitter. “Oh, high flying Uncle Nick, I’m so saddened that your journey ends here. Your memories and music will live on and we will miss you dearly. Farewell, @NICKCOLIONNE,” tweeted one of his fans.
