Garmin distributes Q4 update for fitness and outdoor smartwatches as well as GPS bike computers

Manufacturer Garmin has introduced its new Q4 update for fitness and outdoor smartwatches as well as GPS bike computers. It will be distributed now for fenix 7, epix (gen 2), tactix 7, enduro 2, marq (gen 2), forerunner 255 series, forerunner 945 LTE (coming soon) and forerunner 955 series models. The Edge 1040 and Edge Explore 2 will also receive an update in due course.

According to the manufacturer, new functions for multisport smartwatches include:

  • Running Power: From now on, the mileage will be determined directly in real time on the watch.
  • Morning Report: Provides daily workout suggestions, information on last night’s sleep and HRV status and – when paired with a smartphone – weather. The report can be customized.
  • Incline Adjusted Pace: This pace value calculates a comparable pace on a flat route based on the current incline to better gauge effort.
  • NextFork Map Hints: Displays the distance to the next junction and the name of the next trail.
  • Auto Pause Timer: Tracks time spent moving around or traveling to Pit Stations during Ultra Races. When the activity is completed, the pause time and movement time can be analyzed.
  • Splitboard app: In the pre-installed Splitboard app you can, like in the ski touring app, choose between ascent and descent and display the specific measurements for the respective mode. This update will also be offered for the first generation Marq and the fenix 6 series.
  • Disc golf: With this activity profile it is possible to record disc golf activities.

The update for Edge 1040 and Edge Explore 2 series includes:

  • Competition calendar: With Garmin Connect, the calendar can be maintained, events can be added or deleted. If an event is set as the main competition, the bike computer provides personalized training suggestions.
  • Live Event Sharing: Live Event Sharing automatically sends text messages to friends and family with activity information. The function, previously known from wearables, is only available on Android phones.
  • Messages from viewers: Receive text and voice messages directly on the Edge with the LiveTrack feature.
  • Busy Road Avoidance: This feature can be used to avoid heavily trafficked roads during routing. Alternatively, busy roads can be displayed.
  • Tidal and marine applications: With the new tide overview you always have an overview of the ebb and flow. The new navigation, regatta and anchor apps are also useful.

Free software updates are now available on compatible devices. More updates are coming, according to Garmin. Smartwatches or bike computers can be updated by enabling automatic updates on the device or by using Garmin Express.
