Can Croatia somehow take a step further than last time, when they upset the chances of reaching the World Cup final? Despite losing 4-2 to France at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, coach Zlatko Dalic was rightly proud of his side’s efforts.
Four years later, captain Luka Modric, who was named Russia’s Player of the Tournament, remains their kingpin, ably supported by fellow midfielders Marcelo Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic.
They will face a talented but hastily revamped Morocco in the Group F opener. Former Atlas Lion Walid Regragui took charge of his country just three months ago after Vahid was sacked Halilhodzic following disagreements with key players Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui.
The kick-off is given at 10:00 GMT. Make sure you know how to watch the 2022 World Cup wherever you are.

Marseille midfielder Amine Harit was initially named in the Morocco squad (opens in a new tab) before being forced to retire due to a knee injury. He was replaced by Anass Zaroury of Burnley.
Croatia have no obvious injury problem after beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in their last warm-up game. Andrej Kramaric could push for a departure after scoring the winner as a substitute.

Morocco won their second round group with a perfect record and sealed qualification beating DR Congo 5-2 on aggregate. They were disappointed to only reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, falling to Egypt in extra time.
Croatia bounced back from their first qualifying match loss to Slovenia to top their group, finishing a point ahead of second-placed Russia. They are undefeated in their last six games.

Players to watch / key battles
Achraf Hakimi is one of the best attacking full-backs in the world. He continues to shine for Paris Saint-Germain and becomes even more influential for Morocco, scoring twice in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
Everything Croatia does goes through Luka Modric. At 37, the Real Madrid midfielder is more influential than ever and will be looking to make his mark after announcing his intention to retire from international football at the end of the tournament.

VPN guide
If you’re out of the country for the 2022 World Cup, you won’t be able to watch on your domestic streaming service as usual. The broadcaster knows where you are thanks to your IP address (boo!) and prevents you from watching it. You can, however, use a VPN to circumvent this, without resorting to the illegal streams you found on Reddit.
A virtual private network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s terms and conditions, creates a private connection between your device and the internet, which means the service cannot determine where you are and will allow you to watch. And all information exchanged is fully encrypted, anonymous and safe – and that’s a result.
