Data on parcel delivery times and parcel delivery quality

The Federal Network Agency has published data on parcel delivery times and the quality of parcel delivery in Germany for the first time. The data covers the period from July 2021 to June 2022.

According to this, 80% of the parcels have already been delivered on the first working day following the day of deposit. According to the Federal Network Agency, the legal minimum rate of 80% for next working day delivery was exceeded in all ten postcode areas in Germany with an annual average of more than 95%.

Basically, customers were satisfied, less than 5% of package recipients reported complaints about the delivery service. Nearly two-thirds of the packages were delivered at home by handing them over to the recipient. 4.3% of parcels were dropped off at a post office or relay point. Although most parcels are still hand-delivered, customers are now also using the ability to permanently reroute parcels in terms of location or time for around one-fifth of parcel shipments.

“On average over the year, the majority of parcels were delivered no later than the second working day after drop-off. This means that the legal requirements are met,” says Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency. “The overall quality of parcel delivery in Germany is satisfactory. It is all the more important that the current delivery problems in the mail sector are quickly resolved.
