Apparently, providers Telekom, Vodafone and o2 are not expected to fully meet their imposed expansion requirements for 2022. There are probably still so-called white spots that do not offer LTE/4G or 5G. With this in mind, the Federal Network Agency has updated the display of network coverage with 5G. 5G coverage by at least one network operator has increased to approximately 79% of the area of the federal territory in recent months (as of October 2022). I would bet on Telekom.
At the start of data collection in October 2021, the proportion was around 53%. According to the Federal Network Agency, a comparison of different mobile network operators shows a range of around 37% to 55% in terms of percentage area coverage with 5G.

Summary:
The development of the expansion is reflected in the measurements of the Federal Network Agency’s broadband / dead zone measurement app. A steady increase in 5G measurement points can be seen here. Their share was already around 14% in September 2022 and is increasing. However, 4G remains the determining technology (around 80% of all measurement points). To be able to use 5G technology, end customers must have a 5G-capable terminal and a corresponding contract.
The current expansion of 5G networks still partly relies on existing 4G infrastructure. Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) is also used here. DSS allows simultaneous use of 4G and 5G in the same frequency range. The available bandwidth of a specific frequency band is distributed among active 4G and 5G users in a radio cell as needed. There is also increased use of 5G-exclusive radio frequencies.
