Qualcomm Snapdragon 782G: new SoC for mid-range smartphones

Qualcomm is once again releasing a new processor for mobile devices without much fanfare. This time it’s not a flagship like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but a mid-range SoC: the Snapdragon 782G (SM7325-AF). This example inherits the Snapdragon 778G+. So the upgrades are also rather subtle.

Basically, it’s the same structure: As with the Snapdragon 778G+, the new 782G also offers eight cores. There is the main core (Kryo 670, Cortex-A78) for which the clock has been increased by 200 MHz – up to 2.7 GHz. This is supported by three performance cores from the Kryo 670 Gold series (Cortex-A78) with a clock speed of up to 2.2 GHz. And then there are four efficiency cores from the Kryo 670 Silver series (Cortex-A55) with a clock frequency of up to 1.9 GHz. The Adreno 642L serves as the GPU.

As a result, Qualcomm promises 5% more CPU and 10% more GPU performance than the previous SoC. Otherwise, basically nothing has changed. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 782G also supports Quick Charge 4+ for fast charging and comes with the Spectra ISP with triple 14-bit support. There is also support for camera sensors up to 200 megapixels. The Snapdragon X53, which is equipped for 5G, mmWave and sub-6 GHz, serves as a modem. FastConnect then brings Wi-Fi 6 with up to 2.9 Gbps and Bluetooth 5.2.
