If you’re English, you should have seen a few Belgian players in 2018 – the World Cup actually saw England play Belgium twice. Perhaps uniquely though, neither game mattered.
Well, the first one came when both teams were already in the squad and Gareth Southgate may have been looking for an easier path to the final with his squad shake-up from that game (we’ll never know for sure , sure). The second game between the pair was the third-place play-off as neither team was particularly eager to win a bronze medal once gold was out of sight. For the record, yes, the Belgians won both games.
Much was expected of the golden generation of the Red Devils and truly, they can hold their heads high after this tournament. They managed to beat Brazil in the quarter-finals and narrowly missed out on the final after falling to France. They have beaten the English, twice, whatever you think of this particular iteration of the Three Lions side.
Whether you paid attention to the Belgians or didn’t really watch them, we hope you can correct all 23 of their squad today.
