The crime anthology series starts January 1, 2023 on Netflix

Netflix announces that the new detective anthology series “Kaleidoscope” will debut on January 1, 2023 with the streaming provider. The cast includes Giancarlo Esposito, known from Breaking Bad, as well as Paz Vega, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney, Peter Mark Kendall, Jordan Mendoza, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Soojeong Son, Hemky Madera, Niousha Noor and Bubba Weiler.

The series revolves around what could be the biggest heist in the world, which several master thieves have been planning for 25 years. Viewers then have the option to follow the story at different points in the individual episodes. Episodes are differentiated by color rather than linear order and can be viewed in individual order, changing how events and characters are viewed, Netflix said.

To me, it feels more like a gimmick and bad storytelling. I’m not a fan of these non-linear narrative styles, which are mostly just a license for careless writers to wander around indiscriminately without having to worry about an arc of tension. But who knows, maybe “Kaleidoskop” will teach me something better? The series is inspired by the true story of the disappearance of bonds worth $70 billion in midtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy.

“Kaleidoscope” consists of eight episodes covering a period of 24 years before the flight and 6 months after.
