Consumer Center warns against fake payment claims

According to the Consumer Advice Center Brandenburg, consumers are currently receiving professional-looking, multi-page warnings about alleged copyright infringements. The persons concerned are accused of having made a porn film available to the public for download. The transfer must be made to Ireland.

The IBAN for the transfer begins with the abbreviation IE. According to the letter available to the VZB, the amount is 747.60 EUR. The sender apparently hopes that the written consumers will pay an amount of more than 700 euros per shame. The Brandenburg Consumer Advisory Center (VZB) advises those affected not to react and not to pay under any circumstances.

“These warnings are fictitious. According to our research, the law firm that writes to consumers does not exist at the given address in Berlin”, explains Stefanie Kahnert, lawyer at VZB. “The persons concerned must not be put under pressure by the letter and in no case should they pay”, advises the consumer advocate.
