We always thought of 2022 World Cup presenter Gary Lineker as a potential man from a Hollywood movie. We are not alone.
A World Cup fan was surprised when he ordered a copy of the famous swashbuckling blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and found the BBC presenter somewhere he didn’t expect.
We thought Gary was only going to show up in Qatari stadiums this winter. Oh, how wrong we were – as an online prankster and self-proclaimed “great tweeter” Johnny Sharples (opens in a new tab) also found.
“There is a problem with my copy of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End that I ordered from you,” Jonny tweeted directly from Amazon’s official Twitter account.
“Hello and thank you for contacting us. Have you had a chance to check your return and refund options? a nice guy named Ben replied directly from the account.
“There’s Gary Lineker on the cover???” Jonny asked while posting a photo of the cover. And of course, there was Linksy, who stood between Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom, dressed as the main character, Captain Jack Sparrow.

Newcastle United fan Jonny got another surprise when Lineker himself, in between presenting football coverage, took the time to respond. “Urghhh”, the former Leicester City striker replied (opens in a new tab)with an emoji of eyes looking sideways, suggesting that it was indeed not a mistake to put it on the cover of the movie.
Jonny hasn’t confirmed – but it seems likely he photoshopped the image and put it on the Blu-Ray.
