LG Display now only manufactures OLED panels with EX technology

LG Display has now completely switched its OLED production to EX panels. If that doesn’t ring a bell: It’s a deuterium panel generation and about 30% increased brightness. Some manufacturers also use heat sinks in combination with the EX panels, for example to better manage temporary afterglow or to maintain high brightness for longer without negative consequences.

However, partners using EX panels primarily advertise the technology under their own brand names. For example, LG Electronics, the parent company of LG Display, dubbed the corresponding models “evo”. Even though LG Display only produces EX panels, that doesn’t necessarily mean that “normal” WOLED panels will be immediately phased out of the market. Because there will certainly still be leftover stocks going to the partners and possibly installed for cheaper series.

Samsung Electronics is also doing its own thing: the South Korean manufacturer is avoiding WOLED and therefore also LG Display’s EX panels. Instead, Samsung Display’s QD OLED panels are used for their own S95B.
