Wales fans were crushed by their side’s surprise 2-0 loss to Iran at the 2022 World Cup, with Rob Page’s side taking just one point from a possible six in the Qatar so far.
Following Monday’s 1-1 draw against the United States – courtesy of a late penalty from talisman Gareth Bale – the Dragons were hoping to give their Group B qualification chances against Iran a massive boost on Friday. They were the big favorites to seal the three points of this game.
Still, a red card to goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, with the score 0-0, proved costly. Depleted Wales were hit by two late goals and went into consecutive games without a win. The loss leaves them bottom of a group also containing England, who they will face on Tuesday.

But, despite their setbacks, Wales box still qualify for the round of 16. That’s because they can still reach four points with a win against group leaders England. However, they would also need USA to lose to England and then lose in their final group game. If that happened and Wales overcame England with enough goals, Bale & Co. would reach the knockouts.
But if Iran beat the United States, it doesn’t matter how Wales perform against England – they and the United States will be out.
