The 81-year-old retiring director and his bioethicist wife, Christine Grady, will have a combined wealth of $12.6 million by the end of 2021, up from $7.5 million in 2019.

"Even though Dr. Fauci has become a controversial figure, the system has paid him well," the group's CEO, Adam Andrzejewski, said.

"And although Dr. Fauci has worked for the government for more than 55 years, his family's wealth skyrocketed during the pandemic."

The couple's wealth increased as a result of various factors including major salary increases, cash awards, and royalties.

Last year, Fauci got  lucrative awards from nonprofits, including $1 million from the Dan David Foundation during the Trump Administration.

He kept $910,400 of that award, while approximately 10% was distributed among the recipients of scholarships.

The pay that he received in 2019 of $456,028 was higher than the salary of $434,312 that he received in 2020.

Overall, the couple's investments grew by more than $900,000 in 2021, & their portfolios included trust, retirement, and college savings accounts.

At the end of last year, Fauci's investments were worth $10.2 million, and Grady's were worth $2.4 million.
