Tesla told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the automatic window reversal system would get a software update over-the-air.

Some Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X cars that are made between 2017 and 2022 are part of the recall.

Tesla said that it did not know of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, injuries, or deaths that were related to the recall.

NHTSA claimed a window that closes without an automatic reversing system could pinch a driver or passenger too hard before retracting, causing injury.

NHTSA said that the cars didn't meet the power window requirements of a federal safety standard for cars.

Tesla reported that during August product testing, the automatic window reversing mechanism "changed more than expected"

After extensive testing, Tesla found that the cars' pinch sensing and retracting abilities did not meet automatic reversing system criteria.

Tesla claimed that starting September 13, vehicles being built or prepared for delivery received a software update that fixed the power windows.

Tesla said that the software update "improves the way the vehicle's automatic window reversal system works."
